THANK YOU
Special thanks to Hilder Road School. Their staff are ever generous and so helpful. Their assistance again greatly assisted in the success of our event. Thank you to all instructors, black belts, parents and students of Sun Bae who worked to bring us such a great event. Special thank you to everyone for helping to pack up and restore the hall at the event's conclusion. In charge of the sausage sizzle, Master Ben (not just a master of Taekwondo!). For media, including the amazing screen presentation, Instructor Nicole. For awards organisation and presentation, Instructor Brendan. For our drinks and also the selection of Korean Team Demo footage, Master Shirly. We also thank Instructor John for making the journey from Toowoomba to support us.
OUR HOSTS & PATRON
The hosts of this year's Awards include Sun Bae centres: Kenmore (Master Shirly), Mt Gravatt (Master Ben), Middle Park (Instructor Brendan), Newmarket (Master Shirly) and The Gap (Instructor Nicole). Our patron sponsor for the event and special guest is our grandmaster and founder of the school, Master Bradley Tatnell (8 Dan Taekwondo Kukkiwon & 1st Class Kukkiwon Examiner).
EVENT REPORT & RESULTS
A rainy day, again! But then it got hot! With a late afternoon start, it seems the annual event has become somewhat popular, parents, students, family and friends socialising whilst enjoying a sausage sizzle and cold drink. It is, of course, the one time in the year where we come together to celebrate a great year of Taekwondo, always special.
After the exciting introduction video — Kukkiwon Demo Team performing at the Hanmadang (Kukkiwon World Championships), Grandmaster Bradley officially commenced the ceremony. We thank him for his kind words, his ongoing efforts throughout the many decades most noteworthy. Grandmaster Bradley is a master instructor in all three Korean arts (Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo) and teaches all the instructors personally. All performance footage, including the centres' annual movies are available (see below).
Our Master of Ceremony, Master Nicole, kept the award presentations moving along. The event commenced at 6:00 pm and concluded at 7:30 pm. Awards presented included Technical Excellence, Instructors Award, followed by Student of the Year (plus the Sun Bae Award which is SoY runner-up). Congratulations to all students who were nominated. The Sun Bae Team at Kukkiwon in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea (with mascot!), back in July 2024. The team had the privilege to watch the Korean Demo Team perform live for an official from the USA. And yes, we filmed it, of course! Here it is again!!
MESSAGE FROM GRANDMASTER BRADLEY
Another wonderful day, coming together as one in Brisbane. I wholly enjoyed chatting with parents and students, such great stories.
For the parents, it is my great hope that our training enables your children to also achieve outside the training hall in all their other endeavours, especially homework. Nothing is more important than a healthy body and a healthy mind. To the Instructors of Sun Bae, congratulations on a fantastic year. You have my admiration and respect — your dedication and devotion is a great example to all who train under you. I encourage all the students of Sun Bae, strive to do your best and enjoy another great year of martial arts in Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kumdo.
Train hard, the special events tend to arrive sooner rather than later.
Grandmaster Bradley Tatnell
